Dark Clouds - High Flight.

(Click title to play)

This song was written for an old friend who was, among other things, a pilot. It borrows from the poem High Flight, written by 19-year-old American John Gillespie Magee, a wartime Spitfire pilot with the Royal Canadian Air Force: http://www.mageejrfoundation.uk/

You put on silvered wings and flew
Up the long delirious blue
Through footless halls of air
High flight
You slipped the bonds of earth
On wings of light
Goodnight dear friend
Goodnight

You put on silvered wings and flew
Up the sun-lit silent blue
And wheeled and soared and swung
High flight
On wings of light
Goodnight dear friend
Goodnight

You came to earth - no guiding light
Your wings could not outpace the night
Caught in the storm - dark clouds
High flight
You slipped the bonds of earth
On wings of light
Goodnight dear friend
Goodnight
