Darwin at Downe

Oh I have sailed upon the sea
And I have walked on distant lands
And wondrous creatures have I seen
And held past ages in my hand
And the earth has moved beneath my feet
And I’ve seen great mountains come to sand
And I have watched while dragons swim
And I have tried to understand.

But oh, our little Annie
How I miss her so
And there is less than consolation
In all I’ve come to know . . .

{Instrumental}

But for all that I have sailed
And for all there is to see
Was on a grassy bank at Downe
I understood the mystery
And all men’s castles tumble down
And their vanities are gone
For we are one with all that lives
And this world is all we own

But oh, our little Annie
How I still miss her so
And there is less than consolation
In all I’ve come to know . . .
